The Fairfax Consortium for Evidence-Based Practice will be offering a free, in-person Core Competency CBT Training for a new cohort of clinicians, beginning in September.

Applications are due by 5 pm on Friday, August 19th, 2022. Final acceptance decisions will be communicated to all applicants within the following week.

4-day Core Competency CBT Training 

  • Friday Sept. 9th, 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Friday Sept. 23rd, 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Friday Sept. 30th, 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Friday Oct. 7th, 8:30am-4:30pm

1 ½ day Supplemental Eating Disorder Assessment and Early Intervention Training

  • Thursday Oct. 13th, 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Friday Oct. 14th, 8:30am-4:30pm

Training requirements for the 4-day Core Competency CBT Training: 

  1. Currently be providing treatment services to adolescents and families in Fairfax County 
  2. Be available to attend all 4 days of the Core Competency CBT training
  3. Commit to completing brief surveys that are used to evaluate the training, including before the training, immediately after the training, and 3 to 6 months after the training
  4. Commit to participating in group supervision with one of the GMU trainers (Drs. Fischer or Esposito-Smythers) every other week for 6 months
  5. Commit to using a very brief evidence-based assessment to track client progress
  6. Commit to completing very brief checklists to track your use of the treatment protocol
  7. Be willing to pay for parking ($18 a day) at GMU.
  8. Have the approval of your supervisor to attend the training.

 

Training requirements for the 1 ½ day Supplemental Eating Disorder Assessment and Early Intervention Training:

The same as above except:

  1. Clinicians must be accepted to and attend the 4-day Core Competency Training
  2. Consultation will be available for eating disorder cases with Dr. Fischer
  3. There are no extra 3 to 6 month follow-up assessments after the training (eating disorder related questions will be integrated into the 4-day Core Competency follow-up assessments for those who attend).

If you are a supervisor and are not currently seeing adolescent clients, you may be able to audit these trainings if space permits. Please indicate your preference for mode of attendance when prompted in the survey.

 

Please note, you must apply to be considered for these trainings. As space is limited, applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis as long as you meet stated requirements. You must obtain supervisor approval to attend these trainings and participate in associated requirements (see Requirements for Participation under each training above). The only exception is the Case Manager Training.
